Diploma Policy for Department of Bio-Functions and Systems Science (Doctoral Program)

  1. Candidates must have acquired a wide range of fundamental and multifaceted knowledge of agriculture and engineering, as well as experimental and measurement techniques, appropriate for the holder of a doctorate in Department of Bio-Functions and Systems Science.

  2. Students have acquired the advanced specialized knowledge and experimental and measurement techniques necessary to advance cutting-edge research and technological development in their own field of specialization in biological function systems science.

  3. Students will have the ability to identify issues in various specialized fields and interdisciplinary fields and to carry out highly original research that contributes to the development of sustainable solutions from the standpoint of biofunction systems science, which extracts and systematizes the essence of a model organism or ecosystem and uses it to create new production.

  4. Students will be able to conduct research in the natural sciences in an increasingly complex and diverse international society, learn how to prepare materials for publishing research results, organize experimental data, and make discoveries, as well as acquire practical presentation skills and the language skills to enable accurate question-and-answer and discussion based on logic.

  5. Candidates must have the ability to think from multiple angles to support international activities that contribute to the sustainable development of society, the ability to continue to take on the challenge of solving problems based on independence and collaboration, the ability to be conscious of intellectual property rights, international standards, and social responsibility and to conduct research with a high sense of ethics, and an understanding of the social mission of researchers and engineers.

  6. Students will have acquired the communication skills necessary to collaborate with researchers and engineers from Japan and abroad to conduct research, present the results to specialists, and expand research internationally, as well as the leadership skills required to lead research toward problem-solving, and the language proficiency required to disseminate information to the world.

Curriculum Policy of Department of Bio-Functions and Systems Science (Doctoral Program)

  1. As a student of a doctoral degree majoring in Department of Bio-Functions and Systems Science, students will study specialized interdisciplinary subjects related to agriculture, engineering and the various systems that link them, and will acquire multifaceted basic knowledge and a variety of experimental and measurement techniques that will form the foundation of science and technology related to biological functions.

  2. By studying integrated and applied specialized subjects related to agriculture and engineering in biological function systems science and the various systems that link them, students will acquire the advanced specialized knowledge and experimental and measurement techniques necessary to advance cutting-edge research and technological development in their own fields.

  3. By studying interdisciplinary and applied specialist subjects and conducting research papers, students will acquire the ability to conduct highly original research by setting problems and proposing sustainable solutions based on the progressive application of specialized knowledge.

  4. By studying interdisciplinary subjects, specialized interdisciplinary subjects, specialized applied subjects, and dissertation research, students will acquire the language skills to conduct research in the natural sciences in an increasingly complex and diverse international society, how to prepare materials for presenting research results, how to organize experimental data, discovery methods, practical presentation skills, and the ability to engage in appropriate question-and-answer sessions and discussions based on logic.

  5. By studying interdisciplinary, integrated and applied specialization subjects, students will acquire the ability to continue to take on the challenge of solving problems with a strong sense of ethics and independence and collaboration as the foundation, as well as the multifaceted thinking skills necessary to play an active role internationally and contribute to the sustainable development of society.

  6. In order to develop engineers, researchers and educators who have acquired the skills set out in the diploma policy, students are graded by exams and reports for lectures, and by reports and oral exams for experiments, practical training and exercises. Exam grades for course subjects are expressed in five grades: S, A, B, C and D, with S, A, B and C being passes and D being a fail. Students who pass are awarded the appropriate number of credits. In addition, for dissertations, the examination criteria and methods are clearly stated, and the dissertation examination and final examination are conducted rigorously by the Dissertation Examination Committee based on theses.
